Repetition In Martial Arts Training

by Philip Duldulao on January 19, 2010

Coach Freedman talks about the proper mindset of the Martial Artists and answers the question, “what is the purpose and goals of the most basic martial art drills?”

Some of the points Coach makes are:

  • If you stand around trying to explain something for an hour .. (students) are standing there and they’re getting cold. If they’re getting cold that’s where the injuries come in.
  • If you’re thinking too much, it will rob you of your confidence.
  • Take one thing and do it 1 billion times.. after a while you will just do it.
  • If you are martial artists there is no right or left it is just doing both sides are equal.
  • It is your job and your duty to yourself to make it happen for yourself. It is your duty to yourself to do right side left side and try not to talk too much.
  • There is time for thinking and talking then there is time for action.

Listen carefully to what Coach Freedman has to say in this latest video.

The idea is though to repeat so many different ways your students don’t even realize they’re doing the same thing over and over
